Farming animals continues to be a really bad idea for so many reasons it’s hard to keep track.

This ‘genetic integrity’ being the reason they won’t engage in salmon ranching on the corrib, or why they won’t do anything to help the declining stocks unlike over 100 years ago where spawning pools on rivers were common. Isn’t that whole concept anti evolutionary? Not to mention we could do away with caged farming altogether. Regardless, it’s led to policy paralysis where stocks at sea are dwindling and we are doing nothing onshore to help. And just to be clear, this is more a fault of policy than science. Spawning by individual river could keep the genetic stock of each river intact.

Fair point, just odd a cinema is making it.

Haven’t eaten salmon in years as I’m fundamentally opposed to this kind of farming and keeping this ancient species locked up in the way they do. Do yourself and the oceans a favour and boycott the stuff. All fresh salmon on the irish market is farmed.
