  1. “In the year ending June 2024, there were 38,784 detected irregular arrivals”

Seems pretty regular to me at least. Unless 38,000 turned up on a Tuesday.

Up to June 2024, so under the tory government

    >A total of 67,978 people were granted refugee status or other leave to remain in the UK in the year to June 2024, more than three times the 21,436 in the previous 12 months. Just under three-fifths (58%) of the initial decisions were grants of refugee status, humanitarian protection or alternative forms of leave.

    >Nearly all (99%) of people arriving in the UK in the year to June 2024 after crossing the English Channel on small boats claimed asylum or were recorded as a dependant on an asylum application, the Home Office said. Overall, just under a third (31%) of the total number of people claiming asylum in the UK in the year to June had arrived on a small boat.

Quick question has there ever been any modern returns to Afghanistan or is it not allowed legally? Curious because they often make the largest numbers when it comes to small boats.

This is not sustainable. Someone please explain to be how the country will continue to function if we do not reduce these numbers.

People voted for brexit because they didn’t like immigrants from Poland and Romania.

Some of us said “you know this will just replace them with non EU migrants”.

    Again, “project fear” or something.

I swear, I don’t get why so many of you care, immigrants aren’t the fucking problem. Never have been, they’re the easy scapegoat.

  6. What happens to the actual boats that they use?

Do the border force, or whoever, have a massive collection of second hand boats in a lock up somewhere?

I wouldn’t mind owning my own boat. Would be pretty cool. They should auction them off or something, or put them out in some kind of postcode lottery.

People maybe wouldn’t be as likely to kick off and riot so much if they knew they could potentially win a decent little boat with a beefy outboard motor on the back of it.

Huge peak of small boats in 2022, confirmed incompetent Tory government. Sir Keir has eliminated the small boat problem.

If only we imported 1.3 million houses the situation would be very different.

  9. The Tories apparently spunked £131,209,116,062 – Source: [https://www.bestforbritain.org/scandalous_spending_tracker](https://www.bestforbritain.org/scandalous_spending_tracker)

Not sure how accurate this is but if true this money could have been used for levelling up. Providing housing, schools, hospitals, more police, prisons etc………..

This is where people anger should be aimed.

I’m sure the current government will also have a large figure for their wastage at the end of their go in power.

  10. That’s good.

Trust me, it’s a sign of a developed, intelligent country when, in a time where we’re going through a housing crisis, there’s over a dozen nationality whose rate of being in social housing is actually [higher](https://x.com/rcolvile/status/1788179025082425493?s=46) than than of native Brits.

70% of Somalian household reference persons are in social housing.

I mean, maybe a rational person would argue that, if you’re coming over here you should be a net benefit for the country? Instead, you’re taking up part of the welfare resources that should be going to those who actually have to be here I.e native Brits.

Hold on a second. Gonna quickly phone up Japan and see if they’ll subsidise my housing if I move there – I’ve always wanted to live in Tokyo for a bit, and if I can get the Japanese taxpayer to foot the bill for it, then there’s no question, right?

  11. I never understand why left wingers are not against this. Importing millions of poor immigrants keeps wages down and rent/property prices up.
Hence why Tories did it. Yet if you oppose it then it’s the left that screech “racist racist!!”

  12. OwlsParliament on

So first of all, irregular migration (ie attempts at seeking asylum) is a small proportion compared to legal migration through visas

People coming in through visas at this point are coming in for jobs or education. If you want to reduce that, better spend tons of money training nurses or doctors at home. But that costs even more money than importing them so good luck.

There’s no easy “stop the boats” answer to this, and I don’t see Labour cracking it by the next election.

  13. The numbers are honestly scary. It’s clear we are starting to feel the strain as a country now.
