Fine is probably still cheaper than the tax. Sell the van to yourself and start all over again

The fact that he is driving a MK6 Transit in 2024 is more impressive.
Seems to have the rust under control, fair play to him.
But he should’ve paid his €333 tax

So it was seized for no tax but #saferroads 🤣 I didn’t know not paying tax made it dangerous.

If this was me, I wouldn’t boast about the fact that there are cars and drivers who have evadd inspection for so long.

I think this also highlights why we need ANPR systems in place to deter people like this, he managed to go 5 years without tax on the van, surely there is others doing it on older and less road worthy vehicles.

The Guards making out like it’s nothing to do with them that they weren’t caught in 5000 days. Car tax, just like every other tax in this country is an inflated joke on us all though. While I think we all should have insurance, the government let the insurance companies take us for a ride too.

Even with the fine and seizure, still probably more cost effective than 14 years of tax on that thing

No, there was a 20 year stretch there recently enough.

I’m surprised we don’t have a system like the UK where fines are automatically issued for vehicles that are either untaxed or don’t have a off-road notification.

This is the problem with many road offences – the chances of getting caught are so low that the fines need to be large to provide any disincentive and so feel very unfair and unlucky when you do get dinged for them.
Much broader and consistent enforcement is required and if that’s achieved the punishments can be much lower per individual offence

Is this a failure to tax the van or a failure for the Gardai to detect a vehicle on the road for 15 years untaxed? Wonder how many KM’s are up on it….this isn’t the win they think it is.
