But it will make the country just a little bit fairer for all those people who don’t win the council house waiting list and pay full whack on rent and mortgages.
And that makes me happy. Congrats Labour I approve of this one.

Okay cool, but it will give councils more money, so that’s fine by me
They’re over 50% discounts on average, these people can simply suck it up. They’re getting a slightly less amazing discount… womp womp…

These comments… Never thought I’d see people describe social housing as “unfair” and “unjust”. Brits sure love to lick the boot.

If we made social housing large volume this wouldn’t be such an issue. If you cannot afford the luxury of choice, then living in a well-maintained apartment block, by strengthening building standards and current regulations shouldn’t be an issue.

Rent needs to be forced DOWN, house prices need to be lower, and the way to do that is to make purchasing domestic property for the purpose of renting it out, illegal. The only people buying houses, should be those seeking to live somewhere.

To me it seems very tenuous to suggest that raising social rent by a fixed amount for the next 10 years will encourage more house building. It’s like saying “if we make all chips more expensive, people will want to open more fish and chip shops.” It’s also robbing Peter to pay Paul a bit because it’ll increase the cost of social housing benefit to the government. If Labour follow through with their promise to build 1.5m homes over the next 5 years then local authorities already face mandatory housebuilding targets to deliver 370,000 homes per year. Mandatory means mandatory, no? So why do we need to “encourage” local authorities further?
