Was checking if the tuna in Lidl was dolphin friendly and saw this. Is it to do with fishing licenses I wonder.

They seem to have had really big problems getting their usual tuna stocked. Noticed it was sold out for weeks, it’s something I usually buy and I could never get any. Then this stuff appeared. Didn’t read the label, can confirm it wasn’t nice at all.

That like all the signs on stuff up here now, maybe Lidl is running the border with Tuna Chunks Mad Max style.

  3. I assume it wasn’t supposed to leave the British part of Ireland due to some duty that probably needs paying since Brexit. Report them to the revenue!

I’m guessing that’s supposed to be for the UK market. Wasn’t there a deal done some time ago related to Brexit, where products destined for the UK market (inc. the North) would be labelled as such, to make trade between Britain and NI smoother? Much less in the way of checks on goods coming off the ferry, because goods labelled ‘Not for EU’ are supposed to stay on the other side the Irish Sea sea or north of the border?

That there might be smuggled tuna 😉 Or not really. I’m not sure if the EU have any tariff in place for tuna that has found it’s way into the EU market via the UK.

  5. Label says it’s distributed by a UK supplier, probably for the UK market. Maybe not intended for EU import due to contravening EU labelling laws or tax issues.

Ah just like Dreamy Sleepy Nighty Snoozy Snooze. Bad in most EU states so you know it’s good.

This product needed an import licence to come into the eu, along with veterinary health checks and catch certificates as well as taxes and duties to be paid. It’s totally illegal for this to be down here.

Go to Tesco and grab some Shines Irish caught tuna. Visit their website. They do some great mail order packages. Great gear.

Its stock made for the UK. They must be having some supply chain and procurement issues as this kind of stuff is bought in massive bulk

  10. Nope, nope, nope. Needs reporting to the store and if they don’t take it off sale right away, to the Food Safety Authority.
