Democratic convention delegates confirm Harris's nomination It is the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The event opened with a ceremonial roll call vote for their presidential nominee, Kamala Harris.

Delegates were gathered to confirm the nominations of Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Harris and Walz did not attend because they were in Milwaukee for a campaign rally but Harris appeared on a screen at the convention to say they are honored to be nominees. She said, “Together we will chart a new way forward and future for freedom, opportunity of optimism and faith.”

The Democratic National Committee already conducted an online roll call earlier this month that confirmed Harris as the nominee.

Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle took to the stage. The former president said “we have a chance to elect someone who has spent her entire life trying to give people the same chances America gave her.” Adding, “the next president of the United States of America, Kamala Harris.”

The Obamas are still popular with Democratic Party supporters. They are particularly popular among young voters.
