  1. >Ms Bartlett said her daughter had “a quick ECG” (electrocardiogram test) at hospital before being discharged.

    >”When she went into that hospital, she should have had a blood test,” Ms Bartlett added.

    >”She could have had blood thinner, they could have put stents in, but more so, they could have kept her at the hospital.

The fact the lass died is fucking awful, but folk in the NHS aren’t Gods, they’re not omnipotent. They (almost exclusively) do what they should with the limited information that they have (while doing 18 hour shifts). People _with absolutely zero medical education or understanding_ retroactively judging them, on no information whatsoever, doesn’t help us.

    >Cwm Taf Morgannwg health officials have apologised and the family said they had been paid £160,000 in compensation..

    Oh there we go.

Edit: Aye downvote because NHS == bad. Don’t for a second think why it is that you think that. God forbid.

  2. Doctor here, I’m not sure if there is sufficient information here to make judgements about the practice that has occurred

We know there was a blood clot and a heart attack but whether these were consecutive events I.e. pulmonary embolism, right heart strain, cardiogenic shock and arrest

    OR

a coronary plaque rupture and thrombus formation, is unclear

We need to know about the presenting complaint, PMH and also cardiac risk factors e.g. family hx, diabetic, smoker, peripheral vascular disease, AF, stroke hx etc.

There simply isn’t enough information to identify whether the practitioners judgements were correct and/or guided by Trust protocol. In short, people are too quick to make judgements and I would wait for the coroner’s report to be made available before jumping to conclusions.

I was sent home by a hospital with a blood clot in my calf. When they were doing a scan they were scanning my thigh, I told them the pain was in my calf and was told I’m scanning you for a blood clot and they don’t happen in your calf. Dr said I pulled a muscle.

A few days later I started getting pain in my chest, the blood clot had travelled from my leg to my lungs.

My gran went into A&E in her 80s with DVT. Prescribed blood thinning injections that needed to be picked up every week and self-administered every day despite being old and doddery, not very dextrous. Family rallied round and did what we could to help. It was a stressful six weeks before she was discharged with ‘benign/no issue’ lumps in her breasts. And a very quick fortnight before she dropped dead unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism.
