How on earth are you releasing homeless people and expecting them not to be back within a week ahahhaahah

Almost like 3 hots and a cot is preferable to the streets. Once again just slapping a plaster on the problem and not coming up with a solution for it.

Criminals do criminal things again, I’m fucking shocked. Just build more prisons, shit turn another island into a prison… Nevermind we tried that

I’m genuinely shocked that the prison crisis didn’t get a bigger spotlight during the election campaign. The Tories have fumbled the bag so bad here that Labour could’ve come up with good attack lines against them while having their own solutions to the crisis.

Knowing that this process was “chaotic and rushed” and that they’re letting out prisoners likely to be recalled really makes me feel safe. Glad Starmer is on top of this.

To the surprise of no-one, the greatest predictor of committing a crime sufficient to earn a prison sentence is to have already been in prison.
Re-offending is going to sky rocket as several thousand prisoners are due to be released over the next few months. They’re not being released for good behaviour but merely due to the male prison population being dangerously close to exceeding the prison capacity.

If only the probation service wasn’t also ran into the ground, that might have helped.

I’ve never understood jailing drug addicts who commit crimes alongside convicted drug dealers who are still likely affiliated.
Theyre not going to recover and come out clean with that

If individuals come out of an environment where they are being kept warm and fed and aren’t helped to integrate back in to society then of course they will reoffend. It’s better to be in prison than on the streets… it’s not rocket science… these people need support to be able to return to society and find somewhere to live.
