Switzerland has lots of corruption on communal level. It is not like you bribe the police-corruption. It is more like I can build my house here-corruption with authorities.

To some degree you basically can do anything in Switzerland with money, see the impossible housing project of Roger Federer at the Zurich lake.

  2. Switzerland is the king of corruption, should be in the 10 last with the degree of lobbying here

  3. Considering Hong Kong being at number 14, I’d say it’s not accurate. But maybe they aren’t counting corruption at the highest level?

  4. So being ranked #6 globally, alongside Sweden, Netherlands, Singapore ad Norway is “being pessimistic about the government”?

A country doesn’t have to be #1 in literally everything you know, there’s other very developed nations on Earth.

  5. No. 6 seems to be too high up that list. There are just too many things that seems to be “one hand washes the other” type of scenarios.

No idea how that score is calculated, but getting only 82 out of a possible 100 points doesn’t sound that good. All the criticism you suspect to be pessimism could be the things that lead to the deduction of almost a fifth of the possible points. Surely, Switzerland is better than many other countries, no one would argue otherwise.

  7. Lol? I mean corruption is done here, it’s just not that the common people suffer under it as much, that’s why there no focus on it. They won’t do things like fracking or defund education like in the US for example. They will however build a new yachtport in a 600 peoples village for the millionaires that don’t even live there.

  8. Sounds about right. No everyday corruption, services work etc, but the bribes are more institutional, away from the public eye and lots happening in towns, construction etc.

  9. I guess we are just very good at not getting caught. Considering all the big companies and banks, including mining, operating in Switzerland. I think this statistic is very inaccurate.

  10. This seems more like a “how expensive is it to achieve corruption” list, as I know of **zero** human-run enterprises that are immune from the draw of cash. The list just tells us you need a lot more money in Denmark (and Suisse) to achieve a similar effect as a somewhat cheaper bribe in the USA (and much cheaper bribe in Turkiye, where anything can be achieved with 2 packs of cigarettes and a bottle of Raki.)

  11. Just look at the actions of Nordea’s Copenhagen branch and ask yourself how can Denmark can be at the top of the list. These lists are wildly inaccurate.

  12. A) we rank 6th put pf 180…

    B) There is always a certain % who will always think everyone and everything is corrupt and out to get them, or simply who are dumb idiots…

That’s at least 10% right there, lol.

Probably because they only used “visible”/“known” corruption for those stats. There is a reason why SVP, FDP, and a few other Politicians don’t want to disclose their earnings and affiliations with companies. They want to be a public figure with influence on everyone’s life but no accountability.

  14. We just have enough of being number 1 at all the good things. It’s so tiring, and boring after a while

I worked in a construction company and most of the places were renovated without permits, because the boss was well connected with police and authorities.
Non paid overtime, accidents were not reported, our trucks were mostly overloaded to avoid more driving, we often got accumulative functions ( hire you as a helper, but in the end you are doing the job of graduated professionals)
And he preferred to get paid in cash. Workers were afraid to report any wrongdoing, fearing retaliation.
Our company was involved in the construction of a police station harbour in Wollishofen we would drop anything to fix problems there, we never had to write anything, it was like a favour we were doing.
