Trump is an issue not because he is a symbol of bigger global problems. He’s an issue on his own, because he’s a pathological liar, a fraud, a convicted felon, a rapist and allegedly a traitor, who has sold classified information of his country to foreign governments. This kind of people should be kept away from important public offices, or preferably rot in jail where they belong.
Rhomaios on
Far right candidates are a problem even if they exploit societal issues that they have not created themselves. In addition, they take active steps to maintain that instability and spread misinformation that stoke the fire even more. So yes, people like Trump are (part of) the problem.
His four points are a hilarious attempt at compartmentalizing things and dancing around the ills of neoliberal capitalism. Yeah dude, it’s technology that’s the problem, not the predatory capitalist mega-corporations you mention who exploit technology.
You can tell that this guy either doesn’t understand the issue or doesn’t want to understand it by juxtaposing the issues he mentioned with “economies doing well”. The thing about Japan and the decreasing population which “increases GDP per capita” exemplifies his sentiments quite well: “GDP goes up, economy good”. Meanwhile that GDP growth is just the result of wealth accumulation by a tiny fraction of the population while the rest of the people live with stagnant wages, barely making ends meet.
And speaking of Japan, his entire analysis is so ignorant it’s insane. “Trust in the political institutions in Japan and no anti-establishment trends”? Their former PM (Shinzo Abe) **was assassinated**.
Sloppy, ignorant, toothless, and ideologically-driven analysis. Which is not surprising by the way, given this guy represents a multinational corporation himself. What was he going to say? “Hey guys, people like my bosses have ruined the planet for everyone else”?
