>Meta has announced the removal of a coordinated inauthentic behavior (CIB) network originating from Russia that was targeting Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. The network, which was dismantled after an internal investigation, included 76 Facebook accounts, 30 Pages, and 11 Instagram accounts. The operation was reportedly designed to manipulate public opinion in these countries through fictitious news websites and fake social media profiles, reports the Fair Elections (ISFED).

>In Georgia, the network focused on recent protests against the controversial “foreign agent law,” with posts that criticized the demonstrators and supported the ruling Georgian Dream party. In Armenia, the operation posted content supportive of Russia, criticized Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and commented on the detention of a former Armenian official in Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, in Azerbaijan, the network shared posts critical of the West and focused on local events.
>“The Russian network spent about 77,000 USD on advertising.

So all thanks to this one georgian non-profit organisation reporting the content to Meta. Imagine how many are left behind and how terrible our society and country in general is prepared against misinformation from unverified and inauthentic sources, hell, every other armenian accepts it as their duty to come up with some conspiracy theory and disseminate it. Something urgently needs to be done about media literacy in our society, especially in the current geopolitical climate.
Im sure this is all over social media now, not just Facebook. This investigation by The Guardian revealed how a foreign company (take a wild guess what country they’re from) has been charging 400k+ monthly to leverage its network of over 30,000 multilayered (they have multiple social media profiles) bot accounts to push disinformation online and steer narratives.
This media war is way more dangerous for the world, than the military capacities of russia.

This is good, but I wonder how effective it is fighting against Kremlin propaganda because silencing conspiracies usually backfires. I believe that If the West wants to counter Russia in this region then they need to start pushing their own counter propaganda. Establish quality news outlets in Armenian and Russian, and give people an alternative.
