  1. Here come the cries of ‘socialists trying to force businesses to do what they say’, after pulling their hair out in mock outrage over inflation two seconds ago.

i mean.. this is just a talking point to help people deal with inflation.. The same people who dont understand the root of inflation wont know this is pretty hard thing to enforce… not a fan of this policy, but i support her about most things in general.. like inflation wasn’t the democrats fault.

  3. Funny how Trump blamed prices on Harris but when she proposed solutions he said bad things about her. Gosh.

If she wants the government to put more scrutiny on corporate mergers and consolidation, that’s fine. Competitive markets are good.

But if she’s seriously advocating for price controls she needs to be condemned for this. Democrats need to offer an alternative to the GOP’s populism, not try and imitate it.

No economist is applauding this. There is no evidence behind price controls and they have never worked. 90% of Venezuelans currently live in poverty because the people who run that country thought price controls were a good idea.

  5. Anyone who thinks that inflation is caused by corporate greed, as if only recently corporations have gotten greedy, and not the immense increase in M1 supply cause by government printing, is a complete and utter moron.

Not that I think Harris is a moron – I think she just thinks her voters are idiots and therefore panders to them.

  6. They need to make a cut out for rich people. They *need* to pay $100k for their Birkin bag or what’s even the point?

I wonder if democrats have to start saying they are standing up against oligarchies.

Please make it to where tipping goes away too. So tired of the toxic culture it brings.

She should do this for gas prices too. It’s an essential product with set costs, no reason why we should be allowing insane profits.

I thought price gouging was already illegal? Can someone explain why this is significant for me?

  11. >Tysons Foods and Perdue saw revenue increases of 22.5% and 54.9%, respectively,

Without comment on the merits of the policy, just wanted to point out that Tysons had a net loss of over $600 million in their last fiscal year.  Their revenue did indeed grow, as noted in the article, but their expenses grew more.  It seems like grossly negligent journalism to cite Tyson’s revenue growth in a manner that suggests they’re price gouging while not mentioning the increase in their expenses or the seemingly important fact that they actually reported a loss.

Part of me is like “Yes! YES! Take back the world from the self-destructive and greedy corps” and part of me is like “Oh no, this will anger the puppet masters to a degree that they will likely do something very very bad…”

Now, when it doesn’t quite work like imagined, or gets blocked by 100% of Republicans and a few Democrats, ***vote out Republicans and primary the Dems who block it,*** in 2026, which would start in late 2025. Did your congress person or Senator help this and other goals, or did they go quiet and stay rich?

Fuck these crazy monarchist and billionaires.

Price controls don’t work. I don’t know why they are even talking about them. If corporations have that much control of a market, use anti-trust to break them up. All price controls do is discourage new companies from entering the market, promotes hoarding and scalping and exacerbates shortages. You need higher prices to get more companies to produce more of whatever good is rising in price. And if it’s not possible to increase production, capping prices just leads to shortages and people buying to resell on a secondary market for more, thus debating the price cap anyway.

  15. Inflation?? That’s just collusion on price fixing by reading the room….nobody has to sit in a room and ‘collude’ they just wait and pay attention and work together on a feedback loop of raising prices instead of lowering prices because we are told that inflation is happening – it’s like a self fulfilling prophecy. It’s the capitalist concept, but where the collective favors the suppliers. Instead of trying to outdo each other and lower prices, they watch each other and raise prices. The public believes it because they are told there is a deficit and shit is happening, but in actuality it only works because the majority believes it and it becomes self fulfilling. It’s a product of greed.

Which companies can unilaterally raise prices without reducing sales or attracting competitors?

I am going to move my 401k to these companies and retire.

  17. This just shows how much she DOESN’T know about economics. Grocery stores work on a 1% – 2% net profit. What does she want to do, drive that down to 0%?

Guess what happens next to your supply of groceries in your area?
