Great news. Cricket, while still niche, is growing at a good rate, and with Ireland set to co-host a World Cup in 2030, this investment was sorely needed.
Abbotstown is a bit shit to get to, but it’s better than nothing

Hope it is multipurpose and used for other sports

We need more hotels

That’s excellent news. Especially with the fact that it now allows Ireland to host matches on its own permanent ground than having to borrow club grounds or having to play home matches elsewhere.

Bring back the Bertie Bowl! We need a 40k seater multiuse stadium in Abbotstown!
Then bring back Metro West so we can all actually get to it.

All sports infrastructure is greatly welcomed but let’s try more domes like what Connacht GAA done, mitigates the weather and can be multi purpose

Went to see Ireland vs Pakistan at Clontarf earlier this year, it was a good day out but the place is not really set up for it, lots of people on plastic seats, lots standing outside the pub with nowhere to go, the players came out of the clubhouse directly by fans, so security had to close off the path to the food/exit regularly.
I think a 4k venue is fine, it may be a little underused I suppose, but there are lots of Indians & Pakistani’s in Dublin so the demand is there at least, and you get some Irish fans too

Very good news, the cancelling of the Australian fixture this season was an absolute embarrassment.
Also the world cup this year showed that new pitches can be a bit of a disaster for top level teams, it worked out ok in the end because it made the games exciting, but there was definitely an advantage to the team that figured out the pitch. So this new stadium needs to be built ASAP before 2030 or we’ll have another embarrassment on our hands.

Used to love honking joints while watching the lads play in Rathmines

I wish it was bigger.
Also I wish there was a bit more cricket around the place.
My kid is mad to play cricket, but there’s no kids leagues or anything I can find.
Feckin Bluey got her all pumped for cricket.

Cricket is a sport that we don’t really hear a lot about in Ireland. Is the scene mostly based around Dublin/NI?

Cricket is just ground hurling, right? They’re exponents of the art in north Cork.

This is great news for the sport.
AFAIK this is the only notable World Cup ever lifted by an Irishman

It’s no white water rafting center no, no it’s cricket.
The one down in Cork city is busy enough with folk using it for training, walk past the odd time full blown match underway.
Can’t say am a fan but least it will be well used if the Cork one is anything to go by.

Add in the Velodrome/Badminton and the sports campus is shaping up nicely.

6 years to build a small stadium

Pub I do some part time in had a rented house near buy with a gang of Indians renting.
Lads came in one day wanted to know if they could cast a match to a tv at the weekend for a Inda/Pakistan test match, serious rivalry aparently, so we let them use a small back bar / function room.
Some craic when any of the locals asked “what’s all the noise out the back”.

Ffs, this D4 heavy government has totally lost the plot. No money for Limerick Hospital but an English niche sport get a stadium as their pals at Trinity played cricket.
