RSF Turkey representative Erol Önderoğlu, who explained that not only media freedom but also pluralistic news and the rule of law have been hit hard in the last 10 years, said: “The last 10 years of repression have clearly put independent journalism in danger of extinction. The instrumentalization of the judiciary and public broadcasting, as well as the pressure on media ownership and regulatory bodies, have jeopardized the right to information in a way that has made the rule of law impossible. Turkey must wake up from this nightmare and turn a new page. RSF calls on the President to take action immediately and implement far-reaching reforms to protect independent journalists and ultimately secure the right to information in the country.”
