  1. Pity we cant convert them into something else like local information kiosks or phone charging stations.

  2. I don’t get the new ones either.

The one in Rathmines went up during Covid. The least likely time in recent history that someone would use a public phone.

They are just there to rent ad space. I’ve never seen anyone use it.

  3. how about making them into actual pissers, that’s what they are used for regardless

  4. The same type of article about removing them pops up every 1-2 years then nothing is ever done about it. Is there not supposed to be penalties against Eir, formally Eircom, for not removing them?

Awh it would be lovely if they did something with them rather than removing in their entirety.

  6. Eir do a lot of slick and expensive advertising, yet their brand is basically all over dilapidated, pissy, ugly, broken phone boxes in very high foot fall areas

The council should also block and remove any planning permission to replace these with pretend phone boxes that are actually digital advertising hoardings.

They’re basically vandalising the city by not removing these.

Great opportunity for Vodafone, Virgin or 3 to sponsor something nice in the city centre & really rub it in.

“These flower displays are brought to you by … broadband”

Then take some photos of them right next to the eir phone box..

Ahh the good ol days, when it was lashing rain or when you needed to roll a joint real quick, those boxes provided more than their basic use!

I like the defib idea that some of them have been turned into, they can definitely still have their uses.
