Wang Chuqin is notorious in China for hiding his serve in literally every match he plays. Despite not having won any major championships, his fans still call him as the best table tennis player in the world, which has gained some backlash. People hated Wang Chuqin. They want someone to teach him a lesson and how to play clean. Then Möregårdh shows up.
After Truls Möregårdh defeated Wang, Chinese table tennis fans flooded Möregårdh’s Instagram post to congratulate him. Many Chinese people have become his fans since the match, and now his interviews and clips are going viral on Chinese social media.
He’s even being called ‘神’ (God) by Chinese fans. This is partly because ‘Möregårdh’ sounds similar to ‘god’ in Chinese, and partly because they feel Wang Chuqin finally got what he deserved.
Now Möregårdh has become the most popular and likable foreign player in China.
