Honda to supply Yamaha with electric motorcycles Honda says it will supply Yamaha with two electric motorcycle models comparable to 50cc or smaller bikes in Japan.

Government plans to tighten emissions rules for small conventional two-wheelers have prompted Japanese makers including Honda to consider ending domestic production. The stricter regulations for this class of motorbikes are set to take effect as early as November next year.

Honda has been supplying Yamaha with smaller conventional models as well. It would not be able to produce those with current engine performance under the new emissions rules.

Electric motorcycles are the alternative.

Honda aims to increase production of e-motorcycles and to supply other firms, while Yamaha wants to strengthen its electric motorbike lineup.

Japan’s Suzuki Motor has also been considering ending production of conventional small bikes and developing a two-wheeler equipped with an electric motor and pedals.
