I’m not using lifts but I’ve noticed this many times. Why it is so difficult to have the lift which goes only 1 floor operational? I never seen this problem in other countries or any other building which is using a lift. I can only feel sorry for people who depend on this.

They lost a discrimination case in 2019 because of the issue. A lot of lifts get damaged by anti-social behaviour and they installed a call system to try and combat that. From what I’ve seen, despite the case, lift call system and rebuilt lifts, loads are out of order.

In the States, they are either occupied by violent junkies or have shit over every square inch of the inside.
In an 18 month period, lifts were out of service over 800 times. Incidents include:
* Lifts being deliberately jammed with chewing gum
* A group of six individuals going into a lift and jumping up and down repeatedly
* In another incident, passengers ended up stuck in a lift for 15 minutes after a gang of youths began “kicking the doors as it was travelling”
* A homeless person sleeping in a lift and pulling the shutter down

It’s very frustrating for people with physical disabilities and also for parents with young children.

I don’t need lifts but it’s so bad.
It’s difficult because it likely can only be repaired by a certain person external from the lift company.

We’ve made it impossible to prosecute teenagers for vandalising them.

Lifts? How tall are these trains!??

If prosecutions aren’t pursued when passengers are assaulted on platforms or effectively pushed under trains, then there is no fear of anyone going after vandals. That’s the sad situation in Ireland. The scrots who vandalise the lifts etc are untouchable and they know it.

I think they get vandalised a lot, that’s why they have that annoying call system. We couldn’t use our local station for the entire bank holiday weekend because the lifts were down. It was very frustrating at the time and Irish rail wouldn’t give an indication of when it would be fixed.

Our constant refusal to police either train stations or public transport prob have a role to play.

I’d imagine the automation software just eats up every single byte of the mainframes 128kb of ram. They’d have trouble cooling the old 486 as well.
