750 gw of electricity from off shore wind available but FG think there is no advantage to building it.

Hate when data centres hop up and head off like that.

So then when they fuck off will the rates for customers go down due to the excess of power available?

FG admitted to been to timid with housing solutions and the same with this.
We are the Saudi of wind and yet nada.

How many data centres does it take to make an exodus?

I know people will laugh this off as its about data centres, but this is the same issue the country keeps up against in other areas, incredibly slow drawn out processes that half the time end up going no where after years of work.

Wouldn’t that be a good thing? We would greatly reduce energy consumption & carbon footprint (60% of our energy is gas powered)

They’re not here for our power network.
Cool temperate climate that greatly reduces server cooling costs and no risk of earthquake or severe weather events.
Covering the roof with PV panels or a large scale wind turbine with a few backup diesel gennies will cover their arse.

One day someone will build massive bunkers under the desert, fire hunners and hunners of solar panels above ground and wonder why no one did this before.
For these things.
Seems way more economical, realistically than having them in our nations.

Ok can we just get a list of things we don’t have a shortage or major backlog?

True. My brother builds data centres and he says Ireland is finished now. All his contracts are in the ME.

Is their contribution to the economy large. They don’t seem to employ many people. In Damastown, Dublin 15 Amazon supposedly spent 1 Billion euros and there are 200 employed in the whole operation???????

That headline dosent mean what you think it means, the datacenters won’t leave,. But they will got to 100% self generation for the ones that aren’t grid tied, that will be massive hit to the revenue of eirgrid.

Trying to power these with renewables is insane, and frankly a pipe dream.

Good. They aren’t compatible with Irelands emissions targets, and they compete with consumers for electricity making it more expensive.

**Good.**
These are a net-negative for our economy, and will lead to the privatization of much of our yet-to-be-realized renewable generation capacity.
Any data centers in Ireland must be made to follow strict rules on what they can/can’t process data for – with stuff like crypto and AI banned entirely.
