Jüri Vips gets a new opportunity across the ocean

Vips, who turns 24 in a few days, made his IndyCar debut last year with two stints, finishing 18th at Portland and 24th at Laguna Seca.

"I am very grateful to the team for this opportunity. Although I haven’t been behind the wheel of Formula One for a whole year, I believe that the experiences I gained last year in Portland and Laguna Seca will help me adapt quickly," said Vips on the website of the competition series.

RLL Racing co-owner Bobby Rahal hinted that the Estonian could stay in the team for more than one stage.

"We are happy to be able to live with Jüri in Portland for several reasons. First, he showed that he has plenty of speed last year at both Portland and Laguna Seca. He has gained a lot of experience on the simulator this year, which has helped us get to know the hybrid system better. Therefore, it is our great pleasure to reward him. Hopefully this will lead to more races for him in RLL colours," Rahal said.

RLL Racing is also represented in Portland by American Graham Rahal, Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi and Danish Christian Lundgaard. Vips will ride under the number 75 on this stage. The Portland stage will take place on the 23rd-25th. in August.
