Harris to officially become Democratic nominee US Vice President Kamala Harris is set to officially become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

The party’s online voting began Thursday and closed Monday at 6 p.m. Harris secured 99 percent of the delegates votes for nominee. It will make her the second woman to be nominated for president by the Democrats after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Like Clinton, Harris will be facing off against former president Donald Trump, the Republican nominee. If she wins, she will become the first woman to serve in the Oval Office.

Harris entered the race just two weeks ago — after President Joe Biden dropped out. She will be working to unite the party before Americans head to the polls in November. Harris has not yet said who her potential vice president would be.

Several people familiar with the process reportedly told CBS News that Harris will announce her running mate early Tuesday.
