Aghan Melik-Stepanyan was an Armenian social bandit (Ghachagh, or Abrek as it was known in the North Caucasus. It was a common phenomenon in the entire region). He operated in the Syunik region during the late 19th-early 20th century, fighting against tsarist rule and tyranny, despite coming from a noble background himself. He was one of the close allies of the famous Azerbaijani bandit and folk hero Ghachagh Nabi.

Interesting. Qaçaq means someone on the run, not bandit. Maybe wanted. I guess there were many alliances like this that are not taught at school, unfortunately.

    Thanks for the info.
