Happened locally to me during Covid.
A lad got done around noon at a checkpoint for no tax/insurance and had the car seized.
Later that day, at another checkpoint in the vicinity with the same 2 Gardaí, the same lad rolls up, driving a different car, again, no tax/insurance. Car seized.
I don’t know if the lad was prosecuted, but I’ve seen him driving around since. Not a bother on him at all. Most likely with no tax or insurance.

I won’t spend money on insurance. On a another car I will.
