Vietnam, India agree to boost security cooperation Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has met with his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, in New Delhi. They agreed to further strengthen security ties.

The two leaders held talks Thursday. Vietnam’s state-run news agency quoted their joint statement as saying they agreed to increase defense and security cooperation in areas including human resource development, cybersecurity and maritime security.

The leaders also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea and ensuring freedom of navigation and overflight.
They said claimants of sovereignty in the waters should avoid actions that could escalate disputes.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese President To Lam held talks with Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee in Hanoi on Thursday, calling for deeper economic ties with the territory.

Leaders in Vietnam have been conducting multidirectional diplomacy even after the death of top leader Nguyen Phu Trong.
