Torrential monsoon rains across India have claimed scores of lives. In the southern state of Kerala, a search continues at the site of landslides where authorities have confirmed the deaths of more than 200 people.
Deluges set off the mudslides in mountainous areas early Tuesday. Some 40 rescue teams are using heavy machinery. Officials say about 300 people are missing. A family of four cut off by the disaster was found Friday.
The monsoon has also wreaked havoc in the northern states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, where 19 lives have been lost due to flash floods triggered by cloudbursts. Local media say dozens of people are missing and rescue operations are ongoing. In Uttarakhand, a 7-year-old boy was reportedly swept away.
Weather authorities are warning of heavy rains over the next five days in both states.
