Haniyeh was killed on Wednesday during his visit to Iran. Hamas and others say he was killed in an attack by Israel.

Haniyeh’s coffin was carried to Qatar, where he was based, and his funeral began at a mosque in Doha on Friday. From morning, many citizens gathered around the venue to attend the funeral.

Tight security has been put in place, with metal detectors in front of the mosque. Mourners are barred from bringing in smartphones and other electric devices.

An Egyptian man said Haniyeh is a symbol of resistance. He said his death is a tragedy, but the resistance will continue.

A Palestinian man said Haniyeh is the leader of Palestinian people, and there will be a very strong response in revenge.
