Any other country he would of been shot dead. In Ireland though we will be lucky if he gets a few penalty points.

  2. Leinster House guys will be on to the Department of the Taoiseach asking who his gate guy is, because they want his number.

Edit : Dunno why this is being downvoted… the DotT gates survived with slight bends, and the Leinster House gates got taken off their hinges. He probably had a run-up at the latter, but still.

  3. There is a gate keeping joke in here somewhere but as it’s an rte story I’ll not click on it, as I don’t pay their media charges.

Ha the fools! Trying to secure the scene with flimsy plastic tape when a heavy wrought iron gate couldn’t stop them, that’s optimistic.

All anyone ever thinks about is the politicians. They’re not even there now so the only people this affects is the people in the building. Normal everyday staff. They don’t get the same protection as politicians, so this is scary. They are just people going to work so yeah who knows if something worse will happen, it’s more likely a normal worker will get hurt than a politician or the Taoiseach, who have Garda escorts and escape plans. Fuck anyone who doesn’t realise this.

I don’t think it’s a big jump to say it’s the right leaning Irish people that think the “immigrants and asylum seekers” make the country a dangerous place.. yet it’s them that’s being violent and damaging/burning properties… Maybe I’m jumping the gun there

  7. Em… how did he manage to ram so many Government buildings and not be stopped? Wouldn’t inspire you with confidence if we ever had something serious happen.

  8. Nothing to see here; it was clearly just an ordinary van man angry at those slow-moving gates blocking his way.

Anyone think it’s odd that this news was not reported all at once this morning? Like it happened at 2.30 am, yet news alerts didn’t go out until around 8. Rte didn’t report the aras attack until 9.25.

Like the aras was reported last, when apparently that happened first.

    >In the first incident, a man drove a van into the gates of Áras an Uachtaráin and then drove off.

Also, doesn’t look great for the gardai that a person can:

    ram the aras gate,

then literally drive staight past garda hq, down the quays,

    ram the custom house,

cross the city and ram government buildings.

Surely garda should be able to intercept him before he gets to government buildings.

  10. Fantastic work by the security forces once again. We are truly fucked if any homegrown or foreign terrorist realises how vulnerable we are

Imagine the frustration he must have felt. Ram down the gates of a government building expecting a dramatic arrest and opportunity to have your voice heard, but no one notices. So you drive across the city and ram down gates of another government building. Again no one notices. Drive around again until you find some more gates. Not ideal, because this building is very removed from your political message. Ram the anyway. Finally, after spending an absolute killing on diesel and totally destroying your van, a garda shows up and arrests you. Nothing in the news until around 8 hours afterwards and the only thing the public are really interested in is why the gardai didn’t stop you after the first gates you rammed.
