• On 26.07.2024 I ordered something from interdiscount.ch for a total of CHF 549.65, including CHF 9.70 for "Transport guarantee on goods value"

  • On Monday 29.07.2024 at 14:16 I received an email from DPD titled "Shipment from Interdiscount was delivered today without signature". The content of the email (emphasis mine):

Your shipment 06086202631460 from Interdiscount was deposited with you today in a safe place* without a signature.

    Recipient: {MY ADDRESS}

    *If "safe place" gilt:

    • in single-family houses the letter/milk box and a shelter that is not visible and protected from the weather
    • in apartment buildings also the weather-protected staircase
  • At the time, I wasn’t at home, but when I arrived at home a few hours later, there was no package in the parcel letterbox right next to my door.

  • I checked everywhere nearby, but there was no package.

  • I checked the DPD website, which stated:

If you cannot find your package, please contact your sender. The sender will contact our claims department to clarify liability. Once this has been completed, you will be informed directly by the sender.

(If you cannot find your parcel, please contact your sender. The sender will contact our claims department to clarify liability. Once this has been completed, you will be informed directly by the sender.)

  • So I emailed Interdiscount about it. They replied by basically telling me to fuck off, and attached this proof of delivery:

Our investigations have shown that the order {ORDER ID} was delivered correctly. Therefore, neither we nor the carrier can accept liability for this damage. Attached you will find the delivery receipt including a delivery photo.

If you suspect theft, we recommend reporting it to the police. Experience has shown that the recipient’s home contents insurance will cover the damage caused.

Thank you for your understanding and have a nice day.

  • Note that in their photo the package is on the ground right in front of the door of my apartment building even though there is a parcel letterbox literally right next to it. The package was clearly not delivered to a safe ("not visible") location.

  • In DPD’s own terms of service they claim (again, emphasis mine):

Consignments that cannot be delivered despite permission to leave the parcel (lack of accessibility of the place of storage, lack of protection against Weather, theft etc.) are taken either to a DPD Pickup parcel shop or to the DPD delivery depot according to the agreement with the sender.

(Shipments that cannot be delivered despite a drop-off authorisation (lack of access to the drop-off location, lack of protection from weather, theft etc.) will be taken either to a DPD Pickup parcelshop or to the DPD delivery depot as agreed with the sender.)

  • Obviously the shipment was not taken to a DPD pickup shop, but just left in front of my building’s door, for anyone to see and steal.

  • I replied to Interdiscount with these details, but they’ve been ghosting me ever since.

  • I also went to the police and filed a criminal complaint.

  • What can I do about this? I’m a student, I don’t have a Home contents insuranceand this is actually a lot of money to just get stolen with no recourse. 🙁

DPD package worth CHF 549.65 was stolen from outside my door – InterDiscount and DPD claim they're not responsible. What can I do?
