Hi everybody,

I write in English for the general public and potentially more responses.

Me (Estonian) and my partner (from Denmark, speaks English, Dutch, Danish and German) are looking for a Estonian history books that are like this onebut in English. Either I am dumb and can’t find them, but seems to me they are not translated. We have one for the 20th century, but the kind of thing that really interests my partner is medieval ages, the teutonic order, hanseatic league in Tallinn and so on. Of course there are some books in Estonian, I could read them and translate, but that is just a whole lot of work. Does anyone know any books like this? Possibly books could be in Danish, Dutch or German too.

Any tips would be helpful. Aitäh!

  1. The only examples I could quickly find were the Neil Taylor’s modern history which I’m guessing is the one you already have. There’s also a reference book that was published for the Estonia 100 celebration called Republic of Estonia 100 https://kirjastus.tea.ee/eng/ettetingl/?productID=23756210

Of course for a shorter overview the English Wikipedia pages also have a decent amount of information.

Edit: There’s also a section in Apollo for books about Estonia which have some Tallinn stories https://www.apollo.ee/en/raamatud/ingliskeelsed-raamatud/eestit-tutvustav
