3 US military helicopters make emergency landing in western Japan Japanese officials say three US military helicopters have made an emergency landing on a riverbed in the city of Hashimoto in Wakayama Prefecture. They say no one was injured.

An emergency crew from the city found the three aircraft on the riverbed of the Kinokawa River around 8:50 a.m. on Sunday.

Fire department officials say they contacted US military personnel and were told that two of the helicopters are large-sized models and the other is a mid-sized type.

The officials say the US military personnel explained that one helicopter had a defect in its fuselage.

Police and city officials say the three helicopters have already left the riverbed.
