    From the article:

Still, around four out of five voters in both parties now say they are enthusiastic about their candidate. The poll found that 81 per cent of Democrat voters were enthusiastic about Ms Harris, compared to 37 per cent who had expressed the same for Mr Biden.

Pollster Mike Bocian described the change as “astounding”.

The poll also indicated that support for independent and third party candidates, including Robert F Kennedy Jr, is now hurting Trump more, with Ms Harris pulling one point ahead of Trump with Mr Kennedy in the race.

  2. I was in a fast food Chinese restaurant earlier and the guy behind the counter randomly asked me “Who are you voting for?” I said looking like Harri and before I got it out he said “Yeah! She better than Biden and Trump!”

For me. That’s probably the best metric of the sea change that happened this week. I should add that the guy from the restaurant usually is in the back booth talking on a phone when I go in there and I’ve not really seen him ever talking to customers. The interaction was truly out of the blue.

It’s almost as if the choice between old white guys wasn’t very popular. And since one side actually LISTENED to their base, we have new front runner.

What happens if Trump wins though? The chances of that happening are low, I think, but not impossible.

The worst part about Trump is not Trump himself, but that tens of millions of Americans are so morally bankrupt that they’d vote for him.

It’s been a disheartening realization into just how disgusting some of our fellow Americans are.

  6. Wait till she starts campaigning, Beyonce & Taylor Swift show up at the DNC, and she picks a wildly popular VP. This is gonna be like what 2016 was supposed to be, except people didn’t like Hilary and they love Kamala, and instead of being an outsider with a good rap, Trump is an old lunatic. Greatest rug pull in history – Kamala paints Trump exactly as Trump was painting Biden!

    If she continues to get improved poll numbers it’s going to have two outcomes;

1 – accelerating enthusiasm, volunteering and donations.

2 – an increasingly unhinged Trump as he goes into desperate scorched earth mode.

The second will propel the first because she has (so far) successfully pinned his as an unstable pervader of hate and fear, while he hasn’t found any line of attack that works (“she is a radical left lunatic” just doesn’t mean anything because he’s used it so much).

    Interesting times.

I’d prefer they adopted more of a natural populist but I’m glad they finally got rid of whoever it was in the DNC who had an aversion to populism and a love for anything boring. So far it looks like they’re going to keep throwing bones to leftists so she gets my vote.

Dems either got incredibly lucky or they pulled of a genius move by choosing Harris as VP because she seems to be the perfect anti Trump candidate, the contrast between the two couldn’t be more stark.

Former DA, former AG against a recently convicted felon. A relatively young black woman vs an old white man. She even created a hate crimes unit that focused on hate crimes against LGBT children in 2006. These two are the complete and total opposite of each other and it couldn’t possibly be more obvious.

  12. Closing the gap was the easy part getting ahead and maintaining it till election day is far harder. The disinformation will be rampant the media will constantly both side every issue as equivalent. Harris will make mistakes and even take positions that piss some people off. Stay focused and do not let everything drag you back into not voting or becoming apathetic.

It will only get worse for the magats. They will be one even more unhinged if that’s even possible

  14. The new polls are looking much better, but I can’t believe Trump is still up in some of them. There are a lot of good opportunities for Harris to gain more points, but she needs to be way ahead for me to feel confident in the win

I think this, obviously, has a lot to do with how bad trump truly is. Just voting not-trump is huge, IMO.  Harris is saying the right things and I truly hope she wins.

  16. Trump Fatigue Syndrome is spreading. America is exhausted from this pathological liar.

  17. Need to wait a month to see. Way too many major events in a short time to even have accurate polling right now. Two weeks post VP pick and post convention (obviously going from whatever happens last) until you’ll start to see more accurate polling.

For the first time in a long time, I see a glimmer of hope for the US

Please, *please* don’t disappoint me again

Cool story. Vote blue. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Complacency ends democracy.

  20. …almost like it was planned all along from the beginning.

It’s like we all forgot Biden told us he’d be a 1-term president.

  21. Clearly people need to vote Democrat to ensure Trump does not get in. However, would it also not also work if people vote for a third party candidate over Trump which would then split the vote and give Kalama the win?

  22. Traditional_Key_763 on

hopefully this goes down as a lesson in the history books and we don’t see 70 year olds running for president any more.

    That’s HUGE!

Get on the bandwagon! Don’t be left behind, like those schlubs at the rallies, worshiping the bloated, orange sack of necrotic fatty tissue!

The very bad people are going to try to program something disastrous and tragic now and instill fear. They’re going to get uglier than anything we’ve seen yet. So glad Harris and Biden are in charge.
