Any idea what Montenegrin city/town this was referring to? This is from an American immigrant passenger list dating back to February 1910 during the governance of the Principality of Montenegro.

Polinja

Could be that the clerk misheard and wrote Polinja, which doesn’t ring a bell. Maybe it’s something like Polimlje (more of a general region along the Lim river), or Pljevlja (unlikely, since the town was not in Montenegro until 1912).
A last name could perhaps be helpful since people might recognize where in Montenegro someone is from generally by their last name, and then look for a place with a similar name in that region/tribe.

“Polimlje” maybe, it’s the area around the river Lim, like the city Berane and Bijelo Polje.

Also have in mind that , at the time, Montenegro was very popular in USA. Do to the Czech journalists that where present in Kings Nikola entourage during the battle of Grahovo , and insane Montenegrin victory they documented . 144 dead Montenegrins vs 7500+ Turks of witch one was commanding general and one Sultans half brother . US press followed it and battle is even today in West Point teaching examples.

Many from this region have opted to write they self’s as Montenegrin. Nikola Tesla did it many times . Of course he was Croatian by birth and Serb by nationality. With Montenegrin origin few generations back. But that origin and better “view“ bu administration of the time, caused him as meny others, to write down, Montenegro.
