The Ground Self-Defense Force says that, at the request of the Yamagata Prefectural government, it plans to send about 300 of its members to Sakata City and elsewhere to determine the extent of damage from the heavy rain and rescue stranded people.
The SDF members are based in Higashine City in the prefecture.
