Very interesting because it is developed only on Italian data (even if IlMeteo.it…..oh well….), there are the historical series from 1985 for each city of the 5 indicators taken into consideration:
- average annual temperature
- anomaly of the average monthly temperature
- tropical nights (when the minimum never drops below 20 degrees)
- days of frost and extreme heat
every day of the year starting from 1 January 1985 until 31 December 2023 for all 108 Italian provincial capitals
Example: Udine
This is the Italian map, then go and see for yourself city by city: map of italy
Summary:
«Compared to the period 1985-1999, since the beginning of the 21st century, average temperatures, tropical nights and days of extreme heat have all increased, while freezing days have decreased». Translated: it is much warmer than 40 years ago, the increase is more marked in the last five years and «the projection for the year 2030 shows that what is considered an anomaly today will instead become the norm».
Thanks to the research project, it was possible to identify the regions most impacted by climate change: Tedici and Gussoni explain that «at the top of the list we find the Northern plains and the Tyrrhenian areas that are seeing an unprecedented increase in average temperatures. In Milan, for example, we have gone from average values around 13.5°C in the mid-1980s to over 16°C in the last few years.
An increase of about 2°C may seem like little, but from a climatic point of view this represents a distortion of meteorological conditions with consequences on numerous parameters: an increase in tropical nights (+50 nights/year in the Central-Northern regions) and the frequency of heat waves”. Analyzing the map relating to “extreme heat”, i.e. days with temperatures above 35°C, it is clear how especially in Central Italy the Summer is increasingly scorching in Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio and Sardinia. Finally, even the real Winter with its load of snow and cold now seems like a distant memory: here it is above all Northern Italy that is most impacted by the days of frost that have locally reduced by 60-70% compared to the 1980s.
