It happened to me once when I spotted a car with a Ukrainian plate parked like that in a parking lot and I took a pic of it and the owner of the car saw me and came to berate me, telling me that everyone here (in Cyprus) parks like that, and I told him that I have every right to take a pic of his car, it’s not legal to park like that.

He had a point and was just parking according to local custom. Throwing rubbish out of you car window would be another example of following local convention in Cyprus. I turned into my driveway without using my indicator just as food delivery motorbike overtook. Luckily we didn’t collide but he clearly got a big fright and came back to berate me (fair enough). He was livid and pointing to my indicator and saying I didn’t have it on. I asked him if he was Cypriot? He seemed surprised but the question and said he was. So I said then what did he expect; he would know that no one in Cyprus uses indicators! He graciously conceded the point (& I apologised) and we parted in a friendly spirit as reconciled Cyprus road users. 😅
