US IT giant Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has reported higher sales and profit for the April-to-June quarter, driven by a rise in online advertising, and strong performance of its Cloud business powered by generative artificial intelligence.
Alphabet said on Tuesday that revenue came to nearly 85 billion dollars in the second quarter, up 14 percent from the same period last year. Net income surged 29 percent to more than 23 billion dollars.
Advertising sales grew 11 percent. Revenue from the Cloud business jumped 29 percent, as the company continued to tap the power of generative AI.
Google is expanding the use of its in-house generative AI called Gemini, amid fierce rivalry with other American IT companies including OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT.
