Following up on my post about gross tourist numbers by country, some of you pointed out that it’s not just about arrivals, it’s about attracting rich tourists. So here’s a map of how much they tend to spend, per day, per capita.

Again, some counter-intuitive findings here – the rich Norwegians aren’t quite as spendy on holiday. They didn’t even make the 90+ bracket.

At the other end of the scale, Greeks are the thriftiest by far. No one else is in the sub 60 bracket, let alone sub 40

  2. The unjust story is that tourist is measuring spending as ‘vacation_money / days / people’, and Cyprus measure money_spent_in_Cyprus, and they don’t match.

Because in every vacation first article in the bill is ‘Tickets’. E.g. person spent €2000 for two people for a week, and Cyprus got €800 (57 per capita). 1200 went to two €600 tickets (high season…).

So, for tourist it was €142 per day per capita, and for Cyprus it was €57 per day per capita.
