Former US President Donald Trump has formally accepted the Republican Party’s nomination as its candidate for the November presidential election.
Trump spoke on the last day of the four-day Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Thursday. It was his first public address since the assassination attempt last Saturday.
He said: “The discord and division in our society must be healed quickly. As Americans, we are bound together by a single fate and a shared destiny.”
He added, “I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America, because there is no victory in winning for half of America.”
A Trump campaign official disclosed that the former president drastically rewrote the speech after the attempt on his life.
Trump is apparently calling on Americans to unite in hopes of boosting momentum for his presidential bid through the speech, while President Joe Biden faces increasing pressure to end his reelection campaign.
