A US media outlet says members of US President Joe Biden’s family have discussed how his election campaign should end, if he decides to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
On Friday, NBC News quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that members of Biden’s family have discussed what an exit from his campaign might look like.
NBC says the family members have indicated in conversations that any plan to exit the race should put the Democratic Party in the best position to beat former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate.
The members have also reportedly noted that any plan should reflect the more than five decades that Biden has served the country in elected office.
But a White House spokesperson has denied that the family members have had such discussions.
Biden issued a statement on Friday. He stressed that he intends to push on with his reelection bid, even though some are calling for him to end it.
The president has been self-isolating since he tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday.
Biden’s doctor released a letter on Saturday. He wrote that the president “is still experiencing a loose nonproductive cough and hoarseness.” But he added that Biden’s “symptoms continue to improve steadily.”
US media outlets say that Biden could reach a “critical” point over the next few days.
