Marble khachkar (stone crosses typical of Armenian medieval art), found in Rome, Vatican. This kachkar was erected by the Armenian community of Rome in 1246, whose leader, a certain Stephen, came from the monastery of the Holy Apostles of Mush (near Lake Van). [598 x 800]

  1. I saw it in Vatican, was almost done with the place with a massive museum fatigue so I wasn’t even looking at the artifacts anymore and then I saw it with a corner of my eye and was like “hey, that looks familiar!”

    Here it is in Old Armenian with some notes:

    Ի ՈՂԵ (Ո=600 Ղ=90 Ե=5) թւիս Հա[յ]ոց կանգնեցավ խաչս ի բարեխավսութիվն (բարեխոսություն, թի with the ~ on top can be read as թիւն or թյուն) Մխիթարայ և ծնողաց իւրոց ի հայրութեան Ստեփանոսի Ղազարաց վանեցո որք երկրպագեք յիշեցեք յաղաէթս (աղոթքս).
