Trump, Zelenskyy discuss Russian invasion of Ukraine by phone Former US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have held phone talks on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The conversation took place after Trump’s official nomination as the opposition Republican Party’s presidential candidate for the November election.

Trump announced his meeting with Zelenskyy in a social media posting on Friday. He said as the next president of the United States, he “will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and devastated countless innocent families.”

Zelenskyy also took to a social media platform and said, “I noted the vital bipartisan and bicameral American support for protecting our nation’s freedom and independence.”

Zelenskyy also wrote, “We agreed with President Trump to discuss at a personal meeting what steps can make peace fair and truly lasting.”

Trump has repeated that he intends to end the conflict if elected US president. Since he has not presented any specific means to do so, Ukraine and European nations are skeptical about his plan.
