Last weekend I had to visit the expressionists "The Blue Rider" movement exhibition at Tate Modern. It was surprising that next to all the stars (Kandinsky and co.) the sign of Lithuania also appeared. It turns out that one of the most famous painters of this movement, such as Marianne Werefkin (Mariana Veriovkina), lived and painted in Lithuania for some of her life. Near Utena, in Vyžuonėlės, there is a small house that housed her studio.

Marianne herself also painted our country, there are surviving works with images of Vilnius.

It is interesting that her brother, Pyotr Veriovkin, although he was the governor of the Russian Empire in our lands, was against the ban on printing in our alphabet and advised the Tsar to revoke it.

A very interesting and unexpected discovery.

If anyone is on the way, I recommend a visit.
