The number of overseas visitors to Japan hit an all-time high for a single month in June. The figure for the first half of this year also broke the previous record.
The Japan National Tourism Organization says the country had more than 3.13 million visitors from overseas last month. That topped the previous high of 3.08 million set in March this year.
Analysts say extended holidays in Taiwan and the US helped boost tourist numbers, along with the weaker yen. Visitors from South Korea and China led the rankings.
An estimated 17.8 million overseas visitors arrived in Japan between January and June. This beat the prior record of 16.6 million set in 2019 before the pandemic.
Tourism officials say the survey covered visitor arrivals from 23 countries and regions, with 18 of them setting record highs for June.
