China’s state-run media report that the Communist Party released a communique calling for the completion of reform tasks by 2029 as it wrapped up a key meeting on economic policy.
The third plenary session of the party’s 20th Central Committee ended on Thursday after four days of discussions.
The communique says the meeting adopted a resolution on further deepening reform comprehensively as advocated by President Xi Jinping to advance Chinese-style modernization.
It says the reform tasks laid out in the resolution shall be completed by the time the country celebrates its 80th founding anniversary in 2029.
The media also say the meeting expelled former defense minister Li Shangfu from the party, saying he seriously violated party discipline and law.
The meeting also reportedly accepted a letter of resignation from former foreign minister Qin Gang and decided to remove him from the Central Committee.
Both were dismissed from the Cabinet last year.
