It’s not secret that Russia for a while has been interfering in elections across the western world to assist in installing more “isolationist” governments (usually when it comes to Russia) but with the recent news that Iran has been involved in an (unrelated to the recent attempt) plot to kill Trump it calls into question the strength of the Iranian- Russian relationship, does it not?
If this was successful Russias longtime goal would be unsuccessful, America would be more involved in foreign wars and Biden would either get a wartime boost and be reelected or you’d get a more milquetoast candidate like Nikki Haley (which would be unlikely).
Though as seen by his last administration Trump had no issues stepping on Irans toes with his assassination of Soleimani , heavy support of Israel and increased sanctions . So if reelected there is a good chance Trump will increase support for Israel and if necessary fully support a war with Hezbollah and Iran, like many in his camp ask for.
This for obvious reasons is against Irans interests so it makes sense why they would make an attempt of his life, but how does this affect their relationship with Russia? Are they fine being a sacrificial lamb if the U.S decreases support for NATO/Ukraine or does this cause rifts?
How does Trump affect the Iranian-Russian relationship?
