Biden administration to launch independent review of security at Trump rally US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says an independent review will be launched into security arrangements at the campaign rally where former President Donald Trump was shot and injured.

The suspected shooter is believed to have fired shots from the roof of a building near the rally’s venue in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The Secret Service and other law enforcement authorities have come under criticism for allowing the man access to a place where he had a full view of the former president.

Mayorkas said on Monday that an independent review will be conducted at President Joe Biden’s direction, and that the findings will be made public.

Mayorkas said it “will examine the Secret Service’s and other law enforcement actions before, during and after the shooting, to identify the immediate and longer-term corrective actions required to ensure that the no-fail mission of protecting national leaders is most effectively met.”

The homeland security secretary also said the Secret Service will provide protection to independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Senator J.D. Vance, who Trump has named as his choice for vice president.
