With the 50th anniversary of the traitorous coup against Makarios already here, and the anniversary of the Turkish invasion(s) just around the corner, there are a lot of theories thrown around with regards to what exactly happened during that period. While there are a lot of resources out there outlining the academically accepted historical narrative, there is still a great deal of conspiratorial talk and doubting of sources on various sides. A key element among Greek Cypriots is the allusion to the infamous Cyprus files kept secret for over 30 years.

What are the Cyprus files?

To put it simply, it is a series of documents with judicial verdicts, legal proceedings/transcripts and first-hand accounts from involved Greek officials of the time, happening over the course of several years in the 80s. The assessments and documented evidence from the compiled reports provide a clear picture on what occurred both leading up to the coup and invasion, as well as the broader geopolitical climate. Crucial details about communications between officers, diplomatic envoys etc are obviously unambiguously corroborating the academic narrative of the Cyprus problem (at least insofar as the later events occurred from the Greek and Greek Cypriot perspective).

I’m making this post to make it more public that these files are now public for anyone to download and read. They have been on a release schedule of one tome per year for over a decade now, and this years tome has already been released.

The material is absolutely massive and can be a challenging read, but it is highly encouraged for everyone to have a look and study at least the first assessments from the first tome.
