Biden works to revive his campaign at battleground state rally US President Joe Biden has reiterated that he will stay on despite growing calls from within his own Democratic Party to drop out of November’s presidential election.

On Friday, Biden held a rally in the Midwestern state of Michigan, where a close race is expected between him and his Republican rival, former president Donald Trump.

Biden brushed aside speculation about whether he will stay in the race or if he will lose if he does, saying, “I’m running and we’re going to win.”

He also spoke about the media’s heavy coverage of a slip of the tongue he made at a news conference on Thursday when he mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as Trump.

Biden said, “People would rather talk about how I mix up names” and pointed out that Trump confused former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Biden campaign says about 2,000 supporters at the rally were chanting, “Don’t you quit!”

Outside the rally venue, some Democratic voters called on Biden to drop out.

Biden spoke forcefully at the rally in an apparent attempt to show that he is fit for reelection.
