Japan, Arab economies agree to cooperate in tackling climate change Ministers from Japan and Arab economies have agreed to cooperate in tackling climate change and other global issues to achieve sustainable economic growth at a forum in Tokyo.

The Japan-Arab Economic Forum is being jointly held by the Japanese government and the League of Arab States.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Saito Ken took part in the ministerial-level talks on the second day of the forum on Thursday.

Kamikawa said innovative technologies, such as digitalization and artificial intelligence, have emerged and are greatly impacting society. She said climate change and other global issues need to be dealt with urgently.

Saito said he hopes Japan and Arab countries will take advantage of their strengths to overcome challenges together and advance discussions on measures to achieve economic growth.

League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that cooperation on climate change, AI, education and other areas will help expand investment. He expressed hope that the Arab League will learn from Japan’s knowledge.

Discussions are also being held on energy security, the introduction of renewable energy sources for achieving a carbon-free society, and AI.
