SS: The possibility of an India-China reset has been a subject of debate in India and a point of interest for its partners. Recent comments from Indian officials and interactions with China have fueled speculation about a potential thaw in relations. New Delhi might be seeking to stabilise ties with China to prevent conflict, navigate geopolitical uncertainty, respond to its partners’ dialogues with Beijing, and explore economic opportunities. However, a significant shift away from the existing competitive dynamic is unlikely due to persistent divergences between the two nations. While increased engagement and tactical adjustments are possible, a grand bargain or leader-level summit seems improbable in the near future. India is expected to continue strengthening its capabilities and partnerships to compete with and deter China across multiple domains.

  2. The Modi government might want a deal, but the current tendency of the PRC seems to be to push things as far as possible. The very desire of the Indians for a deal will be seen as weakness.
